A fundraiser launched in memory of seven-year-old Alan Singh, who tragically lost his life after getting into difficulty in the water off the coast of Co. Sligo, has raised more than €22,000.

Alan was pulled from the sea at Lissadell Beach on Saturday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the young boy was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital. Despite all efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

The heartbreaking loss has sent shockwaves through the community of Ballisodare, where Alan’s family live and operates a local restaurant.

A GoFundMe campaign set up to support Alan’s grieving family has received overwhelming backing from locals and well-wishers across the country.

“As a community, we are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of Alan Singh following a tragedy at Lissadell. Our thoughts are with his parents, IqbalJeet (Indie) and Andrea (Dzurikova), his sister Aisha, grandparents, family, friends and all his classmates at St John’s National School, Ballisodare,” the online appeal reads.

The fundraising page confirms that all contributions will be directed towards helping the family with funeral costs and other essential expenses during this devastating period.

“All donations will go directly towards covering expenses and helping his family through this incredibly difficult time.”

Alan was a pupil at St John’s National School in Ballisodare, where staff and students have been left heartbroken.

Principal Mary Curley paid tribute to the young boy in an emotional statement. “Alan was a much-loved pupil — always smiling, warm and full of kindness. He was friendly, hardworking and a talented young artist who brought joy and creativity to our classrooms. His gentle nature and positive spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him,” she said.

Alan’s funeral will be held tomorrow at the Church of the Assumption in Collooney. Burial will follow at Sligo Cemetery.

The tragedy has united the local community in grief and generosity. Friends, neighbours, and strangers alike have come together to offer financial and emotional support to the Singh family.

The loss of such a young life has struck a deep chord, and the fundraising response speaks volumes. Anyone wishing to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign can do so here.
