A popular bakery treat from Aldi has been urgently pulled from shelves across the UK over serious allergy concerns.
The supermarket is recalling its PYB02 PANATAS Part-Baked 6 Pack Custard Tarts after it was discovered that vital allergen information is missing from the label.
Urgent Aldi alert as bakery item is ‘health risk’
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued the alert late on Saturday, warning customers that the product poses a potential health hazard to those with specific food allergies.
“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to egg, and/or an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, and/or an allergy to nuts and/or an allergy to sesame and/or an allergy to soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or for anyone with coeliac disease,” the FSA stated.
What’s the Risk?
According to the FSA, the custard tarts contain egg, milk and wheat (gluten) and may also include hazelnuts, sesame, and soya, none of which are clearly listed on the label.
This oversight means the product could trigger severe allergic reactions in people sensitive to these ingredients. Notably, this affects all best-before dates of the product in question.
What Aldi Is Doing
Aldi has moved swiftly to remove the affected tarts from sale and is contacting allergy support organisations to spread the word to vulnerable groups.
“Aldi is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.
The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.”
Customers who have already purchased the tarts are advised not to eat them. Instead, they should return the product to any Aldi store for a full refund, no receipt needed.

Why These Alerts Matter
The FSA explained that food products are withdrawn (removed from sale) or recalled (customers are asked to return the item) when there’s a threat to consumer safety.
“Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect, or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.”
Extra Caution Urged for Allergy Sufferers
While most shoppers may not notice the missing information, those with allergies or intolerances could be at risk of serious health complications, ranging from hives to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
This isn’t the first time a major supermarket has had to take such action. Experts are reminding the public to double-check labels and always be cautious when trying new or unfamiliar products — even trusted favourites.
Stay alert. Stay safe. If you or someone in your household has a food allergy, take a moment to check your cupboards.
This swift recall by Aldi underscores the importance of accurate labelling and quick action to protect public health.
