A sense of shock has gripped the quiet town of Camelford in Cornwall after an elderly couple were found dead in their home under suspicious circumstances.

Late on the evening of 24 September, emergency services were called to a property on Treclago View following concerns for the welfare of the occupants. Inside, they discovered the bodies of Anthony Buxton, 71, and his wife, Michele Buxton, 69.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. “Michele’s death is being treated as suspicious, and both fatalities are linked,” confirmed a spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police.

They added: “Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.”

Investigation Ongoing, But No Wider Threat

Police quickly sealed off the property as forensic teams began their investigation. That cordon has now been removed, but the cause of the deaths remains the subject of careful police enquiries.

Despite the suspicious nature of Michele’s death, detectives have ruled out the involvement of any third party. The couple’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by trained liaison officers.

At the time of the discovery, Detective Inspector Peter Gee stated, “We are supporting the next of kin of the people who have died in this very sad incident. Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what has happened, but we are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.”

What We Know So Far:

  • The deaths occurred on 24 September in Camelford, Cornwall
  • The couple were found at their home following welfare concerns
  • Michele’s death is being treated as suspicious
  • Both fatalities are believed to be linked
  • No suspects are being sought by police

Community in Shock

Camelford is a small, tight-knit community rarely touched by such incidents. News of the tragedy has left neighbours and locals deeply saddened.

One local resident, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s just so tragic. You never expect something like this to happen right on your doorstep. They seemed like a quiet, private couple.”

Broader Context: When Homes Become Crime Scenes

Cases like these, though rare, often leave behind more questions than answers. While police have reassured the public that there’s no wider threat, the suspicious circumstances still loom large.

In the UK, police must follow strict protocols when a death is considered unexpected or suspicious. Even when no suspect is at large, every detail is scrutinised to ensure justice and clarity for the families involved.

This story is still developing. Police have not released further information regarding the exact cause of death or the timeline of events inside the Buxtons’ home. Post-mortem results and additional forensic reports are likely to provide more answers in the coming weeks.

For now, the town of Camelford mourns the loss of two of its residents, as investigators work quietly behind the scenes to piece together what really happened inside that Cornish home.
