Emma Watson Breaks Silence on ‘Humbling’ Driving Ban
Emma Watson has opened up about the’ humbling’ experience of her six-month driving ban, which attracted wide attention before this time.
The 35- time-old actress, celebrated for her part as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, was banned from driving in July after being caught driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford.
At the time, she had nine penalty points on her licence. She was fined£ 1,044 following the incident.
Speaking on the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, Watson said, “I was getting phone calls, like it’s on the BBC. It’s on international, worldwide news.
I was like, my shame is everywhere.” She revealed that she received messages from people sympathising with her, sharing their own driving mishaps.
Watson explained that her acting career limited her driving experience. “When you work on movies, they literally will not insure you to drive yourself to work.
You have to be driven, it’s not a choice,” she said. She admitted this lack of experience contributed to the speeding incident.
Reflecting on the ban, the actress described the experience as a “discovery and a journey that’s been humbling,” pressing the discrepancy between her on-set chops and everyday life challenges.
Presently, Watson is studying at the University of Oxford while continuing her work as a UN Women goodwill ambassador and acting career.
Her driving ban has sparked conversations about the pressures of balancing fame, responsibility, and ordinary life, with Watson candidly admitting that, indeed, small miscalculations can feel monumental when in the public eye.
