Super Typhoon Ragasa Kills 14 in Taiwan, Forces 2 Million Evacuations Across China and Hong Kong

Super Typhoon Ragasa, the most important storm of 2025, has wreaked annihilation across East Asia, leaving a trail of destruction in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China.

With sustained winds reaching up to 260 km/ h( 162 mph), Ragasa has been dubbed the”King of Storms” due to its unknown strength.

In Taiwan’s eastern Hualien County, the detonation of a hedge lake has led to disastrous flooding. The lake, formed by landslides during the storm, released an estimated 60 million tonnes of water into Guangfu township.

As of Wednesday morning, at least 14 people have been verified dead, and 124 remain missing. Eighteen others have been reported injured.

The flooding has destroyed structures, swept down vehicles, and left behind slush and debris, complicating delivery sweats.

Authorities have evacuated over 3,000 residents to safe locales, and dogfaces are delivering essential supplies to stranded townies

. Hong Kong is under the loftiest position of typhoon warning, with winds reaching up to 220 km/ h( 137 mph). The Hong Kong Observatory issued Signal 10, advising residents of”persistently adverse” rainfall conditions.

The storm’s strong winds have pulled trees, damaged structures, and injured over 30 residents. swells as altitudinous as lampposts have lashed the megacity’s malls, and flooding has disintegrated diurnal life.

Authorities have suspended over 700 breakouts, closed seminaries and businesses, and opened emergency harbors.

The storm swell has caused water levels to rise by further than 1.5 metres, with some areas passing swells up to 3.8 metres above map detail.

In the Guangdong fiefdom, nearly 1.9 million people have been evacuated in expectation of Ragasa’s landfall. The storm is anticipated to make landfall between the metropolises of Yangjiang and Zhanjiang.

Authorities have declared a”wartime” state of readiness, suspended academy and business operations, and established over 800 exigency harbors.

Storm surges could elevate ocean levels by over five metres in some areas, raising concerns of widespread flooding. Before reaching Taiwan and Hong Kong, Ragasa caused at least four deaths and affected nearly 700,000 people in the Philippines.

The storm brought heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding, displacing thousands and causing significant damage to structures. Authorities are continuing to assess the full extent of the damage and give support to affected communities.

In response to the unknown storm, governments and philanthropic organisations are mobilising coffers to help affected regions.

Deliverance operations continue in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and southern China, with brigades working tirelessly to detect missing individuals and give aid to those in need.

The transnational community has expressed solidarity, offering support and backing to the affected nations.

As Super Typhoon Ragasa continues its path across East Asia, authorities prompt residents to stay informed, follow evacuation orders, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

The full extent of the storm’s impact is still being assessed, and recovery sweats are anticipated to continue in the coming weeks.

“At least 14 people are dead and more than 100 are missing after the ‘King of Storms’ slammed into Taiwan.

Flights have been cancelled and communities locked down as ferocious winds batter the region.

Super Typhoon Ragasa, dubbed the ‘King of Storms,’ is the strongest storm of 2025 and could become the fiercest ever recorded in Hong Kong.

The Observatory hoisted the maximum T10 warning signal in the early hours of Wednesday, warning the city to brace for ‘persistently adverse’ weather.

Winds howled at 137mph, and towering waves pounded Hong Kong’s shores.”
