Noah Lyles Clinches 200m Gold at World Athletics Crowns 2025, Eyes Bolt’s Record
American sprint sensation Noah Lyles has once again proved his dominance on the track, landing gold in the 200 metres at the World Athletics Crowns 2025 in Tokyo.
The 28- time-old finished the race in a stunning 19.52 seconds, edging near to the fabulous Usain Bolt’s record.
Lyles’ palm marks his fourth successive 200m gold at the World Crowns, matching the feat achieved by Bolt himself.
Speaking after his triumph, the sprinter did not shy away from ambition. “I wanted to rewrite a memory here in Tokyo,” he said, reflecting on the setback of losing the 100m earlier in the tournament.

The race was a tightly contested affair. Fellow American Kenny Bednarek secured silver in 19.58 seconds, while Jamaica’s Bryan Levell took bronze with 19.64 seconds.
The championships also saw emerging talents shine, including Kate O’Connor setting a personal best in her event.
Lyles revealed the careful planning behind his performance. “Being patient was the most important thing. I controlled the race.
I knew some of the guys were going to tighten up, but I just stayed relaxed and got the job done.”
His strategy was a clear drive after the 150m mark, capitalising on his challengers’ fatigue. He admitted that once, crowns, particularly in 2021, had been a particular challenge.
“I love what I do and I am happy,” Lyles stated. “I am just glad to be back and winning my fourth gold in the 200m races.”
With Tokyo now behind him, Lyles has his sights forcefully set on 2027, aiming to break Bolt’s major 19.19-alternate 200m record and become the first man to win five successive 200m gold orders at the World Crowns.
