Met Office Flood Alert: North Wales Faces Heavy Rain

Flood Alerts Issued Across North Wales as Heavy Rain Hits

North Wales is on high alert as heavy downfall sweeps through the region. Multiple flood tide warnings have been issued following a Met Office rainfall alert, with over 60 mm of rain anticipated in less than six hours.

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) warned: “With heavy, persistent rain forecast from the early hours of Wednesday morning, there is a risk of localised flooding across Wales.”

Areas currently affected include:

  • River Dee corridor, from Llanuwchllyn to Llangollen: Low-lying land and roads could flood. Rain is already falling, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
  • Anglesey: Flood alerts cover rivers across the island, with rainfall impacting the region.
  • River Glaslyn and River Dwyryd, from Dyffryn Ardudwy to Nant Gwynant: Rivers are running high, with ongoing rain keeping levels above normal.

Original councils are prompting residents to take care, limit trips where possible, and stay streamlined on conditions. Motorists should be conservative, particularly in areas prone to flooding.

The Met Office has advised that conditions could worsen quickly, with flash flooding possible in some areas. Exigency services are set, and communities near gutters are being prompted to stay watchful.

Flood warnings like these are a stark reminder of how swiftly heavy rain can disrupt diurnal life. Indeed, short, violent cloudbursts can overwhelm drainage systems, leading to swamped roads and parcels.

As unsettled rainfall continues across the UK, Wales remains one of the regions most at threat.  Residents are advised to plan ahead and follow sanctioned guidance to stay safe.
