Sophie Turner to Take on Lara Croft in New Tomb Raider Series
Sophie Turner is about to step into some veritably big shoes. The Game of Thrones star has been verified to play Lara Croft in the forthcoming Tomb Raider series, taking over from Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who previously brought the audacious archaeologist to life on screen.
After weeks of rumours, the news is sanctioned Sophie Turner will be the coming on-screen Lara Croft. Amazon MGM Studios blazoned the casting, promising a fresh take on the iconic character.
Turner is now the third actress to portray the tomb-raiding heroine. That’s no small feat. But she seems ready for the challenge.
“I’m deeply honored to portray such an iconic figure. Lara means so much to so many people,” Turner said.
Her words underline a commitment to bringing something new to the role while respecting its legacy.
Turner isn’t flying solo. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, best known for Fleabag and her recent gem in Indiana Jones, will handle both jotting and producing. Her style promises humour, heart, and an ultramodern edge to the series.

“It’s rare to adapt a character with this level of cultural impact alongside such a passionate team,” Waller-Bridge added.
Filming is set to begin on 19 January 2026, according to Amazon. No release date has been verified, so suckers will need to stay a while before seeing Turner’s interpretation of Lara in action.
