Tube Strikes London: Major Travel Disruptions Across the Capital This Week

Londoners are preparing for significant travel chaos as tube strikes hit the capital from Sunday, 7 September to Thursday, 11 September.

Services across all Underground lines will be “severely disrupted, with little to no service expected,” according to Transport for London (TfL). Some Docklands Light Railway (DLR) services will also be affected.

The industrial action, organised by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union, is set to impact commuters, tourists, and event-goers alike.

“The RMT said it was taking action over pay, shift patterns and fatigue management,” affecting daily routines and major events, including Coldplay’s Wembley Stadium concerts, which have now been rescheduled.

Exact Dates of Disruption

  • Tube Services: Sunday, 7 September to Thursday, 11 September
  • DLR Services: Tuesday, 8 September and Thursday, 11 September
  • Late Starts: From Monday, 8 September to Friday, 12 September, tube services will not run before 8am

Affected Lines

All London Underground lines will face disruption:

  • Bakerloo
  • Central
  • Circle
  • District
  • Hammersmith & City
  • Jubilee
  • Metropolitan
  • Northern
  • Piccadilly
  • Victoria
  • Waterloo & City

Travel Alternatives

TfL advises commuters to consider other options. Some services, including the Elizabeth line, London Overground, and trams, will continue to operate as their staff are from different unions. However, these services are expected to be extremely busy.

Passengers should note that certain stops on the Elizabeth line or Overground may be skipped due to industrial action or scheduled engineering works. Checking TfL updates before travelling is strongly recommended.

Buses remain operational across London, while cycling or walking is encouraged where feasible.

For more information on planning your journey during the strikes, visit the TfL website.

  • Expect extremely limited Underground services
  • DLR services affected on specific days
  • Overcrowding on alternative routes likely
  • Plan ahead and check TfL updates regularly
  • Consider walking, cycling, or bus travel as alternatives

These strikes highlight the ongoing tension between transport staff and management in London, emphasising the importance of preparation for commuters during peak travel days.
