Jay Blades: Former ‘Repair Shop’ Star Faces Rape Charges in UK Case
Jay Blades, the well-known face of BBC’s The Repair Shop, has been charged with two counts of rape, according to West Mercia Police. The TV presenter is expected to appear in court next week.
A police spokesperson confirmed: “Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. He is due to appear at Telford magistrates’ court on 13 August 2025.”
The charges have sent shockwaves through fans of the popular British restoration series, where Blades gained national recognition for his heartfelt storytelling and calm demeanour.
His journey into television began more humbly. Raised in Hackney, East London, Blades co-founded Out of the Dark, a charity helping disadvantaged youth learn furniture restoration skills.
A short documentary about that initiative caught the eye of BBC producers, leading to his debut on The Repair Shop in 2017.
From then on, his rise was swift. The nation grew fond of his warmth and hands-on expertise. In 2021, Blades was awarded an MBE for services to craft and community.
Last year, in 2024, he stepped down from his role as presenter on The Repair Shop, as confirmed by the BBC at the time. No reasons were publicly disclosed then.
Now, the circumstances have drastically changed. There has been no public comment from Blades or his representatives regarding the allegations.
The case is set to proceed at Telford Magistrates Court on 13 August. Further legal developments are expected as the situation unfolds.
