Nintendo Game Boy Brings Brick-Powered Nostalgia to Life in New UK Lego Collaboration
Nintendo is taking fans on a joyous trip down memory lane with a brand-new trailer unveiling its latest retro-inspired project, a Lego Game Boy set that pays homage to the original 1989 classic.
“Now, you’re playing with power… brick power.” Yes, you read that right. Nintendo has teamed up with Lego to recreate the magic of its original Game Boy, and it’s done so with a strikingly familiar 80s flair.
The newly released trailer mirrors the quirky charm of the 1989 “Robot” advert, think dusty alien worlds, moody synth music, and that iconic teenage hero in denim.
“They said it wasn’t possible,” the dramatic voiceover declares. “But now, you can have all the power of the brick in your hand.”
It’s everything nostalgic fans could hope for, and more. The Lego Game Boy is a nearly exact 1:1 scale replica of the iconic handheld console, complete with the signature D-pad, A and B buttons, and the familiar Start and Select controls.
The attention to detail is immaculate. Even better, the set includes two buildable cartridges featuring Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Sure, some fans might’ve preferred Tetris, but who’s complaining when there’s pixelated Zelda magic on offer?
The screen? You’ve got options. Choose from a classic Nintendo start screen or switch things up with gameplay scenes from either of the two featured titles. It’s a playful detail that’s bound to please diehard collectors and casual fans alike.
In total, the set comes with 421 Lego bricks, a satisfying build for adults and nostalgic gamers. Nintendo and Lego encourage you to “relive the thrill you felt when you first played on the Game Boy.” Hard to argue with that sentiment.
The Lego Game Boy is now available for pre-order in the UK for £54.99, with shipping set to begin on 1st October. A perfect early holiday treat or just an indulgent throwback gift for yourself.
Nintendo first teased the concept earlier this year, with leaks following shortly after. But this latest reveal gives fans the clearest look yet at the retro-inspired model. And it’s a beauty.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo and Lego have joined forces to tap into our collective nostalgia. Their growing collection includes the Lego NES system, a buildable Bowser, The Legend of Zelda’s Great Deku Tree, and even a Mario Kart kit complete with a posable figure.
And there’s more on the horizon, a Pokémon-themed range is already in the pipeline for 2026.
