Teagasc Opens Doors for Future Farm Leaders with New Level 7 Apprenticeship
Applications are now open for Teagasc’s highly anticipated Level 7 Farm Manager Apprenticeship Programme, kicking off in September 2025.
The programme is tailored for ambitious individuals looking to take a leap into farm management, offering a practical, fully-paid learning route in Ireland’s ever-evolving agricultural landscape.
Teagasc, Ireland’s national body for agriculture and food development, is behind this initiative—combining real-world training with expert-led academic sessions.
To be eligible, applicants must already hold a Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture (or a comparable or higher qualification), or alternatively, have at least two years of full-time experience in the agri-sector along with an NFQ Level 6 or higher qualification.
Crucially, they must be employed by a SOLAS-approved employer.
The structure is straightforward but effective. Over two years, apprentices work full-time on commercial Irish farms—paid placements that serve as their on-the-job training.
Simultaneously, they’ll attend off-site training at Teagasc Kildalton College and Teagasc Moorepark, delivered in short intensive blocks (typically 3–5 days).
Teaching won’t just come from books or screens. It’ll be delivered by a rich blend of Teagasc lecturers, researchers, and knowledge transfer experts. Guest appearances from seasoned Irish farmers and agri-industry professionals will round out the experience.
“The Farm Manager Apprenticeship programme allows apprentices to earn while they learn, while also developing knowledge, skills and competencies in sustainable farming practices.
Apprentices will be employed on commercial farms in Ireland for the duration of the programme. Following completion of this programme, graduates will typically manage farm businesses or work in the wider agriculture industry,” said Tim Ashmore, Principal of Kildalton College.
Application Process
Step one: secure a job with an Approved Employer.
Step two: complete an Apprentice Registration Form together with the employer, working alongside a SOLAS Authorised Officer.
