Zack Polanski Elected Green Party Leader in Decisive Victory
Zack Polanski has been confirmed as the new leader of the Green Party, winning a decisive mandate from party members.
Polanski secured 20,411 votes, leaving rivals Ellie Chowns and Adrian Ramsay’s joint campaign trailing at 3,705 votes. The result marks a significant moment for the party as it looks to solidify its role as a credible progressive alternative to Labour.
The Greens have been on an upward trajectory in recent years, increasing their representation in the House of Commons to four MPs last year. Polanski’s victory comes amid a push to further expand the party’s influence and public profile.
Throughout the campaign, Polanski called for the party to be “bold” and championed what he describes as an “eco-populist” approach. Meanwhile, his opponents urged caution, emphasising outreach to a broader range of voters.
Mr Ramsay, the outgoing co-leader and MP for Waveney Valley, alongside North Herefordshire MP Ms Chowns, criticised Polanski’s rhetoric, saying it risked appealing only to a “narrow segment” of the electorate.

The voting period closed on 30 August, open to all members who had joined by the end of July.
Polanski now faces the challenge of steering the Green Party into a new era. The mandate he has received gives him the authority to pursue his agenda, but balancing bold ideas with electoral pragmatism will be key.
The result highlights a shift within the party. Members are signalling a desire for leadership that is unafraid to push progressive boundaries, even at the risk of controversy.
