Newcastle United are shifting their attention to Brentford forward Yoane Wissa, with hopes of striking a deal before the summer window closes.
The Magpies are facing increasing pressure to bolster their attack after a £70 million club-record bid for Hugo Ekitike was turned down by Eintracht Frankfurt. With Liverpool now advancing in talks for the Frenchman, Newcastle are actively pursuing other options.
“Newcastle are interested in Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.” Wissa, 28, had an impressive run last season—netting 19 goals in 35 Premier League matches. He’s now become a serious target for Newcastle, especially as the club realises Ekitike may be out of reach.
“The Magpies are in the market for a striker, knowing that they could miss out on Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike amid interest from Liverpool.”
The Congolese international has just one year left on his current deal at Brentford. Official estimates peg his value at around £30 million, though insiders suggest the figure could be closer to £40 million. Either way, Brentford will likely stand firm, given Wissa’s role as a key attacking asset.
“Newcastle saw a club-record bid of £70m rejected by the Bundesliga club for Ekitike.” Nottingham Forest have already tested the waters with a £25 million offer, which Brentford swiftly rejected.
Tottenham Hotspur had previously expressed interest in Wissa, but the arrival of Mohammed Kudus has shifted their focus.
Brentford now face a tricky decision. Selling Wissa may jeopardise their ability to keep hold of Bryan Mbeumo, who’s been on Manchester United’s radar.
“If Newcastle or any club does a deal for Wissa, it would have implications for Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.”
The West London side is wary of losing too much firepower. Having already seen manager Thomas Frank and skipper Christian Norgaard depart, another double blow up front would be hard to swallow.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are making moves. Talks have begun with Eintracht Frankfurt as the Reds aim to secure Ekitike. Newcastle, well aware of the looming threat, are exploring alternatives—Wissa now front and centre.
“Liverpool are expected to make a bid for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.”
The Reds reportedly turned their attention to Ekitike after being told Alexander Isak is untouchable this summer. Newcastle value their Swedish striker at a minimum of £150 million, making a move impossible for most.
As Liverpool and Newcastle circle different targets, one thing’s clear—the striker merry-go-round is in full spin this summer.
And with Sky Sports set to air a record 215 Premier League matches next season, fans won’t miss a minute of the transfer-fuelled drama.
