Britain is bracing itself for three days of heavy downfall and strong winds after the Met Office issued a slew of downfall warnings across the country.
Whether you’re swapping or planning a weekend range, this week’s unsettled conditions are set to bring some disturbance.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Set to Hit the UK
Unheroic rainfall warnings are in force moment across southwest England and Wales as an area of low pressure moves in from the North Atlantic.
The Met Office has warned of “some flooding and travel disruption” overnight and into Tuesday evening.
Tomorrow brings further alerts, including rain warnings in northern England covering Lancashire, Northumbria, parts of County Durham, and parts of North Yorkshire.
Coastal areas and the western islets of Scotland will also see patient downfall through Wednesday morning. The stormy downfall is caused by low-pressure systems, funneling strong winds across the country.

Commuters are being advised to expect some impact on roads and railways, particularly from fallen trees and branches.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Holley explained: “Whilst there is some uncertainty as to the exact track and intensity of the area of low pressure as it passes close to western Scotland later on Tuesday, many parts of the UK are likely to see spells of rain which, given saturated ground, could lead to flooding and delays to road and rail travel.
In addition, strong winds are expected, particularly in northern and western areas. We are closely monitoring developments and may issue updates to the warnings as the situation evolves.”
Indeed, with the rain and wind, some areas can anticipate unseasonably mild temperatures on Monday.
London could reach 14C, Cardiff 13C, Manchester 12C, and Edinburgh and Belfast around 10C, near to what we might generally see in October rather than December.
UK Weather Forecast:
Monday Showers will continue across northwestern England and western Scotland, while most of England and Wales may see sunny spells in the afternoon. Breezy showers are anticipated in northern regions, turning wet and windy later.
Tuesday to Thursday, Heavy downfalls and strong winds will sweep across the UK, with strong gusts hitting western Scotland. A brief settled period is anticipated on Thursday, though temperatures will remain mild.
Commuters and trippers
are advised to check original updates regularly, particularly if heading through areas prone to flooding or fallen debris.
The Met Office notes that while this unsettled spell sets the tone for a wet and windy December, it’s still too early to make prognostications for Christmas Day.
