UK Set for Sunshine with 22C This Weekend Amid Mixed Weather, Met Office Warns
After a soppy week that drenched much of England, the UK is set to enjoy a brighter spell of rainfall this weekend.
Temperatures could climb to 22C in London, furnishing a welcome chance for outdoor plans.
The warm conditions are anticipated to linger into Sunday. Norwich could reach highs of 22C, while Edinburgh warms up to 20C.
But the sunshine won’t be uninterrupted. Light showers are predicted across parts of the UK.
“Warm sunshine on Saturday, though winds are freshening and a few showers are developing in the west,” a Met Office spokesperson said.
“Turning more unsettled for Sunday and Monday. Rain giving way to sunshine and blustery showers.”
The shift comes after northern England, the Midlands, and the corridor of Wales faced a severe rainfall warning for storms on Thursday.
The warning, which lasted until 5 pm, advised of further rain and potential flooding. England lately endured its wettest week for seven months.
According to the Environment Agency, notable downfalls fell across the North West, South East, and South West, with each region receiving further than 35 mm between 27 August and 2 September.
Swash situations rose at nearly all covered spots, although around a third remained below the normal range for this time of year.
Interestingly, despite the heavy showers, the total downfall in England for August was only 42 of the long-term normal. Months of hot, dry rainfall have formerly strained water coffers, affecting husbandry and the terrain.
Hosepipe bans, failure orders, poor crops, and low force situations have been reported across the country.
Spring and summer 2025 were both record-breaking. Spring was the second driest on record for England, and summer recorded the hottest temperatures ever observed.
Some restrictions remain. Yorkshire Water continues its hosepipe ban, and Southern Water maintains one for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
“Yorkshire is in drought following an extremely dry spring and the hottest summer on record,” said Dave Kaye, Yorkshire Water’s director of water services.
“While the rain, which was heavy in some areas but short-lived, has been welcome, the majority has been taken up by the extremely dry ground, as well as plants and trees.”
For those planning feasts or picnics, this weekend may eventually offer a respite from the grim showers. Yet, the Met Office reminds the public to stay set for breezy showers as rainfall conditions remain changeable.
