Tyson Fury Sets Sights on Oleksandr Usyk Over Anthony Joshua, Confirms Promoter Frank Warren

Tyson Fury is making it clear that Oleksandr Usyk is the fight he wants. And he’s putting Anthony Joshua on the back burner.

That’s according to his protagonist, Frank Warren, who has offered the first solid update on Fury’s long-anticipated return.

Fury, who stepped down from boxing beforehand in 2023, is reportedly eyeing a comeback in 2026. But Warren stressed that this return won’t depend on Joshua’s schedule.

Warren is eager to pin down a date for Fury’s return. The Gypsy King is motivated, according to his promoter. “He’s indicated to me and I know to a lot of people that he does want to carry on,” Warren said.

The discussions about the timing are ongoing, and there’s a palpable sense that Fury is itching to get back in the ring.

Speculation has been rife about a Fury-Joshua showdown. Yet, Warren hinted that Fury might take a “tune-up” fight before stepping into a mega clash with Joshua.

Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has also expressed hope for the matchup but noted that Joshua would need adequate preparation before facing Fury.

But make no mistake, Usyk is the primary goal. “That’s the fight he wants. That’s the one he talks about all the time,” Warren confirmed. A Fury-Usyk bout could shake up the heavyweight division in a big way.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Usyk faces a tough decision. He must choose whether to take on his mandatory challenger or wait for another chance against Fury. Warren praised Usyk’s accomplishments. “Whatever he does, it’s going to be his choice,” he said.

Usyk also has to defend his WBO title. That hinges on the winner of Joseph Parker vs Fabio Wardley on October 25. The outcome of that fight will determine who steps up to face Usyk next.

Fury’s return is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about comebacks in heavyweight boxing. With Usyk at the top of his radar and Joshua still in the discussion, suckers can anticipate fireworks in the ring.
