Tyquan Thornton Shines as Chiefs Secure First Victory of 2025
Tyquan Thornton finally stole the spotlight on Sunday night. The Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver turned in a career-defining performance in the platoon’s 22- 9 triumph over the New York Titans.
Thornton hauled in five passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, making the public followership take notice.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes relied on Thornton in pivotal fourth-quarter moments, and head trainer Andy Reid verified his plan to involve the wideout.
“He had one back-to-back, and he does a nice job making the second one go there. And he’s showing some things,” Reid said.
“He’s a guy that I know JuJu spoke highly of when he was with the Patriots and Bill Belichick, and compliments.
And he’s come here and done nothing but work hard. It’s nice to see him get an opportunity.”
For Thornton, success didn’t arrive by chance. He pointed to consistent preparation as the key.
“Practice reps become game reality. You go out there, you work at the little things, you challenge yourself, you don’t shy away from it. You go out there on Sunday and give yourself a chance,” he said.
The receiver also praised his new Chiefs teammates for helping him adjust since leaving New England.

“It means a lot because when I first got here, coming from New England, seeing these guys practice, they practice at a high level and so efficient in how they do the little things, the little details, making routine plays.
And I was a guy coming in, just trying to be a part of that and just making those plays as well.”
Thornton admitted the transition hasn’t always been smooth. “You’ve got to know who you are, look at yourself in the mirror. Sometimes life can be hard, but you’ve got to keep working,” he said.
Mahomes was full of praise for the fourth-time wideout, noting his rapid-fire progress and growing trust.
The Chiefs, now eventually hitting their stride in 2025, will hope Thornton can continue this form in the games ahead. His route night might just gesture the launch of a bigger commodity.
