Thomas Partey Confronts Several Allegations of Rape and Sexual Assault
Former Arsenal and Ghanaian international footballer Thomas Partey has been charged with multiple serious sexual offences following a lengthy police investigation.
Authorities have confirmed that Partey is now charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, linked to incidents that allegedly took place between 2021 and 2022.
Police reports indicate that the charges involve three separate women. Two of the rape charges relate to one woman, while three further rape charges concern another. The remaining sexual assault charge involves a third woman.
The allegations have been the subject of an extensive investigation, which began after a complaint was first made to the police in early 2022.
Partey, 32, has strongly denied all accusations. Through his lawyer, he has expressed his desire to clear his name and has stated that he has fully cooperated with the authorities throughout the process.
The footballer’s contract with Arsenal officially expired at the end of June 2025, bringing his time with the London club to a close after nearly five years.
Arsenal has confirmed the end of his contract but has declined to comment further due to the ongoing legal proceedings. Both the Football Association and the Premier League have also chosen not to provide public statements regarding the case.
Detectives leading the investigation have reiterated their commitment to supporting the women who have come forward. They are also encouraging anyone else affected by the case or anyone who may have relevant information to contact the police team handling the matter.
Partey is expected to make his first court appearance in August 2025 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
His lawyer said in a statement that Partey “firmly denies all allegations and welcomes the chance to present his case in court.” She emphasised that he will not be commenting further at this stage out of respect for the legal process.
Thomas Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020 from Atletico Madrid, was a key figure for the club during his time there, playing regularly in both the Premier League and Champions League.
He has also been an established player for Ghana’s national team, appearing in multiple international fixtures, including recent World Cup qualifying matches.
While the case will now move forward in court, many observers have highlighted the importance of approaching the matter with sensitivity and fairness, acknowledging that both the alleged victims and the accused deserve due process and support through what is likely to be a challenging time.
