Stocklinch Road to Shut for Five Days as Wessex Water Works Begin
Drivers in Whitelackington are being warned of a five-day road closure next month as essential works get underway on Stocklinch Road.
Somerset Council has confirmed the stretch will be shut from Monday, 8 September until Friday, 12 September, operating on a full 24-hour basis.
The closure covers two key points:
- From the junction with Back Lane through to Atherstone and Main Street.
- From Old A303 through to Stocklinch Road itself.
The disruption comes as Wessex Water prepares to install new fibre cables in the area. The utility company says the work is needed to strengthen infrastructure and ensure long-term reliability for residents.
Council officials have stressed the move is unavoidable. “The closure is necessary to facilitate the works and to ensure the safety of the public and the workforce,” a spokesperson explained.
An official diversion will be set up for motorists, though delays are expected during peak times. Locals are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time throughout the week.
