Stansted Airport Evacuated After Fire in Departure Lounge

Stansted Airport in Essex faced an early-morning dread on Wednesday after a fire broke out in its Escape Lounge, leading to the evacuation of the main terminal.

The blaze, which started around 330 am, caused some dislocation to breakouts, though thankfully no one was hurt.

Exigency crews rushed to the Escape Lounge as the bank filled the area. “ The fire was contained and no one was injured, ” verified a field prophet.

The fire reportedly started from a conking coffee machine. Despite the early-hour chaos, the field’s fire service acted snappily to bring the situation under control.

Passengers were asked to leave the terminal while the smoke cleared. Security gates were closed temporarily, creating long queues and some confusion.

Many travellers found themselves outside the terminal, braving the chilly morning air while waiting for updates. By around 6am, the airport confirmed that security had reopened.

Planes were still able to take off, but some flights faced delays. “Staff were working hard to get people through the terminal and security after the temporary disruption, and waiting times may be longer than usual,” the spokesperson said.

Some passengers raised their frustration at the unanticipated chaos. One described the scene as “absolute chaos,” noting that families plodded to find space and breathe comfortably.

Another said they arrived at 4 am for a 710 am flight to Ibiza, only to encounter long delays and a disorganised outstation.

Those flying from Stansted moments are prompted to check with their airline before heading to the field. The prophet reminded trippers
“ Passengers were advised to check before they travel.”

Stansted Airport has thanked passengers for their tolerance during the incident and assured them that staff are doing everything possible to ease the dislocation.
