EURO 2022 champion makes fresh move ahead of Women’s Super League season
Nikita Parris has completed a free transfer to London City Lionesses, committing to a two-year deal with the newly promoted Women’s Super League (WSL) side.
The 31-year-old England international, who played a key role in the Lionesses’ triumphant Euro 2022 campaign, makes the switch following the expiration of her contract at Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.
Parris joins the Lionesses with a wealth of top-tier experience, having previously represented Manchester United, Arsenal, and French giants Lyon — where she lifted the Champions League trophy.
Her arrival signals serious intent from the South East London club as they prepare for their debut season in the WSL.
“It’s a very ambitious project,” said Parris. “I’m really looking forward to meeting all the girls and getting started.”
Parris was instrumental in Brighton securing their highest-ever WSL finish last season, placing fifth in the league. Her departure on 22 July marked the end of a brief yet impactful stint on the South Coast.
Ronald Thompson, director of football at London City Lionesses, expressed his excitement about the signing: “She brings top-level experience and a winning mentality, and she’ll be a brilliant role model for the younger players in our group.”
Her arrival is expected to bolster the squad both on and off the pitch, particularly given the club’s focus on developing emerging talent.
London City Lionesses will kick off their WSL campaign with a challenging fixture against Arsenal on 6 September – a club Parris once called home. The match is set to be a litmus test for the team’s readiness at the top level.
Parris’ move adds a significant layer of experience and firepower to London City Lionesses’ roster, and her leadership could prove vital as the club adjusts to life in the WSL.
As the countdown begins to the new season, fans will be watching closely to see how the Lionesses fare with their newest Lioness on board.
