Glasgow is bracing itself for a wet and windy day as a Met Office rainfall warning comes into force, with flooding anticipated to disrupt the morning and evening commute.
The alert, issued for hereafter, Tuesday, 11 November, warns of heavy rain sweeping in from the south from 10 am and continuing until night.
Motorists and public transport users are being prompted to prepare for delays as roads become slippery and rail services may be affected.
Areas under the warning include Glasgow, Argyll and Bute, East and West Dunbartonshire, Inverclyde, East, North and South Ayrshire, North and South Lanarkshire, East Renfrewshire, and Renfrewshire.
The Met Office states: “20-40 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely, with a few places perhaps seeing in excess of 60 mm by the end of the day. Accompanying the rain, winds are expected to strengthen, with gusts to gale force possible.”
Officers advise that spray and insulated flooding could make peregrinations especially delicate, particularly in the evening rush hour. There may also be accidents on busy routes, further decelerating business.
Commuters are advised to allow additional time for the trip and to check for any disruptions on the original machine and train services.
The Met Office added: “Flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible.”
With breezy winds hitting exposed plages along the Irish Sea, the combination of heavy rain and strong gusts is anticipated to produce dangerous conditions, making caution essential.
Residents are being prompted to stay alert, avoid low-lying areas prone to flooding, and keep up to date with the latest warnings.
