Marvin Ducksch Completes Transfer to Birmingham City from Werder Bremen
Championship side Birmingham City have landed a significant signing with the arrival of German striker Marvin Ducksch from Bundesliga club Werder Bremen. The move, confirmed on Thursday, brings an end to Ducksch’s four-year spell at the German outfit.
The 31-year-old forward, who played a vital role in Werder’s promotion to the Bundesliga in 2022, has now opted for a new challenge in England. A fresh chapter begins, one that promises to bring both excitement and expectation to St Andrew’s.
His departure from Bremen was announced by Peter Niemeyer, head of professional football at Werder.
“Marvin has played a huge role for us in the last four years, in re-establishing Werder Bremen as a Bundesliga club. Despite this, we knew that we were ready to begin negotiations, provided it suited all parties, which currently it does.
We thank Marvin for his contributions over the last few years and wish him the best of luck for his new chapter in England,” said Peter Niemeyer.
Ducksch had taken part in only one pre-season session this summer before the transfer gained momentum. Talks progressed smoothly between the two clubs, ending in a deal that benefits both parties.
The German forward leaves behind a remarkable legacy in Bremen. Since joining Hannover 96 in 2021, Ducksch quickly became a key player. In his debut season, he netted 20 goals and provided 10 assists, instrumental numbers that helped Werder secure promotion back to the Bundesliga.
He didn’t slow down either. Over the next three top-flight campaigns, Ducksch added 32 goals and 27 assists in 99 Bundesliga appearances. A consistent performer. A fan favourite. And a man who gave everything in green and white.
“I look back on four successful years in Bremen in which I was able to experience so many brilliant moments,” said Marvin Ducksch.
“Werder was a special chapter in my career and one that I will always have fond memories of. Now I have chosen to embrace a new challenge, one that I look forward to greatly.
I thank my teammates, the people in charge of the club, the fans, and the staff at the club, who have all supported me during my time in Bremen.”
Birmingham City, who are aiming to climb the Championship table this season, will be hoping Ducksch’s proven goal-scoring instincts translate well to English football. He brings more than just goals, his ability to link up play and create opportunities is just as valuable.
It’s a clear statement of ambition from the Blues. They’ve added a player with top-flight experience, composure in front of goal, and a hunger for new success. At 31, Ducksch has plenty to offer.
His leadership, his work ethic, and his eye for goal could prove vital as Birmingham looks to push forward.
As for the striker, he’s stepping into unfamiliar territory, but with the same hunger that made him a star in Bremen. Birmingham fans will be eager to see him in action, and all eyes will be on how quickly he adapts to the Championship.
