Fulham boss Marco Silva has declined to comment on speculation linking Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson with a return to Craven Cottage – but admits the club have significant transfer work ahead.
The 25-year-old winger spent part of last season on loan with the Cottagers, clocking 13 appearances before a hamstring injury cut his campaign short in December.
“Reiss Nelson was with us last season. He was very unlucky in terms of his injury record last season. Perhaps in his best moment of the season, he had a bad injury that broke the momentum. But he’s not our player right now, he’s an Arsenal player, so I’m not going to talk about players from another club,” Silva told Sky Sports.
Nelson, now fully fit, has rejoined Arsenal’s pre-season squad and was seen making an impact during their recent friendly against AC Milan in Asia. Despite his contract with the Gunners running until 2027, discussions are believed to be underway over a potential return to Fulham – possibly on loan with an option to buy.
Sources suggest Fulham remain keen on bolstering their wide options and see Nelson as a natural fit after his promising spell, even if short-lived due to injury.
So far, the West London side are yet to welcome any new signings in this summer’s transfer window. Instead, the club has prioritised contract extensions, successfully securing the futures of experienced names like Tom Cairney, Kenny Tete, and Josh King.
“We Are Working Hard” – Silva Addresses Frustrations
Silva acknowledges the growing unease among supporters regarding the lack of new arrivals but maintains that efforts are well underway behind the scenes.
“Myself as a manager, and all the managers they would prefer to have the squad almost complete in this stage of the pre-season. Until now, it’s not been possible. And I understand the fans. But what I can tell them is we are working hard, we haven’t started in terms of signings. But we have a lot of business to do in this market,” he said.
Despite no official signings, Marco Silva assures fans that Fulham are active behind the scenes, with a busy transfer window ahead. The club remains in discussions with Arsenal over Reiss Nelson, as they aim to bolster their attacking options before the season kicks off.
With less than a month to go before the new Premier League season begins, Fulham fans will be hoping for fresh faces and swift movement – starting, potentially, with a familiar one in Reiss Nelson.
