This unanticipated motorway check has led to significant traffic detentions, with commuters prompted to plan a redundant trip time or find alternative routes while emergency services deal with the crash.
Diversion Route for Drivers
Motorists are advised to follow the hollow square diversion symbol, which has a maximum vehicle height of 4.7 metres:
- Exit the M20 at Junction 9 towards Ashford/Canterbury.
- At the next roundabout, take the third exit onto the A20.
- Continue on the A20 for around 14 miles, passing through Charing, Lenham, and Harrietsham, before re-joining the M20 westbound at Junction 8.
The diversion route aims to minimise delays for drivers affected by the closure, though traffic congestion is expected on nearby roads as a result.
Impact on M20 Traffic in Kent
The crash comes at a busy time on the motorway, with numerous motorists travelling for work or rest. The M20 is a crucial route connecting London to the Kent seacoast and the Channel anchorages, so closures frequently beget significant dislocation to freight and commuter traffic likewise.
Authorities are prompting motorists to stay streamlined via original traffic cautions and sanctioned motorway updates. Emergency crews are presently working to clear the scene and renew the motorway safely.
For anyone planning to travel in the area, it’s recommended to check the latest M20 traffic reports and consider alternative routes to avoid delays.
