Keir Starmer Calls Angela Rayner an ‘Incredible Prime Minister’ by Mistake
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer sparked a flurry of attention on Monday after he accidentally called Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner an “ inconceivable high minister ” during a live BBC 5 Live interview.
The gaffe passed while Starmer was defending Rayner amid ongoing review over her recent property purchase in Hove, valued at£ 800,000.
Speaking passionately about his deputy, he said: “Angela is an incredible prime minister, an incredible person.”
Starmer added: “I’m proud of that and we should be proud as a country that Angela is our deputy prime minister.
And that by the way will give I don’t know how many working-class children, particularly girls, a real sense of aspiration.”
The slip snappily drew attention online, with social media druggies mooting whether it was a simple mistake or a hint at Rayner’s eventuality to lead the country in the future.
Rayner has faced scrutiny over her Hove flat purchase. Critics argue she may have reduced her stamp duty bill by temporarily removing her name from the deeds of her Ashton-under-Lyne property.
The Ashton-under-Lyne home remains her main residence for council tax purposes.
In response, Rayner admitted she underpaid stamp duty and voluntarily referred herself to the Prime Minister’s ethics adviser. She also pledged to pay any outstanding tax owed.
The incident has stirred political debate. Conservative Party numbers have called for a thorough disquisition, suggesting implicit breaches of the Ministerial Code.
Meanwhile, Starmer has stood forcefully behind Rayner, praising her adaptability, fidelity, and the illustration she sets for aspiring youthful people.
As the story develops, all eyes are on Rayner and how this contestation might affect her political line.
