It’s been more than 100 agonising days since Glen Godfrey vanished without a trace—and now, his family have taken matters into their own hands. Frustrated by the slow progress of the official investigation, Glen’s loved ones have adopted a hands-on approach, delving into woods, dredging waters, and calling in outside help to keep the search alive.
Glen, 38, was last spotted on 4 December 2024 at Staines Moor in Surrey. According to witnesses, he had taken off his boots and clothing before sprinting into a wooded area. Since then, no confirmed sightings. No concrete leads.
His mother, Denise Godfrey, holding on to fading hope, said: “I suspect it probably ended not very well. He would have been found, or if he did run off – we thought if he’s just laid down, it’s cold, maybe he’s had a heart attack. If there is a slightest slightest little chance he has got off these moors, and has gone somewhere- please, just let someone let me know.”
In a bid to uncover answers, the family have turned themselves into part-time investigators. They’ve deployed drones, installed homemade underwater cameras, dug through terrain, and even shifted trees. Their mission: find Glen.
They’ve also enlisted the help of a private search and rescue team—the same group that helped locate Nicola Bulley in Lancashire two years ago. The decision reflects their growing impatience with the current police operation.
Footage captured by Glen’s relatives shows items recovered from the woods, including knives and discarded clothing. Perhaps most disturbing: a bloodied hoodie handed in by a member of the public. Despite these findings, Surrey Police have not committed to full forensic testing of all materials.
A spokesperson for the force explained: “Glen is assessed as high risk, he still remains as priority for the force to find him. We have conducted land searches, air searches and underwater – in a massive reservoir near to where he went missing. We’ve reviewed many hours of CCTV and phone data to plot people’s location.
We are looking at a criminal investigation, our intention is to find him – we’re constantly talking to his friends and family which we are investigating. Anything we can do to open a new line of inquiry – we have looked into.”
The Godfrey family aren’t giving up. Each day, they cling to the idea that their efforts might uncover something overlooked.
Denise, fighting back tears, shared her memories of Glen: “I just wanna find him to put to rest. He was always climbing trees… he was just a little monkey. We just thought he was on his little boat, honestly, I think if he could have just lived on the land and grown any vegetables, he would have been fine.”
As the days pass, so does the hope of a straightforward resolution. But the Godfreys are determined. They’re not waiting in silence. They’re searching, questioning, and demanding action. Until they find Glen—or answers—they won’t stop.
