Emma Stone’s ‘Bugonia’ Premiere in L.A. Demands Head-Shaving for Entry
The buzz around Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film, Bugonia, isn’t just about its storyline. The Los Angeles premiere has taken a bold, unconventional turn, attendees are asked to arrive bald or be ready to shave their heads, mirroring Emma Stone’s enterprising part in the movie.
The event is set for Monday at the Culver Theatre, and tickets are extremely limited. Guests must RSVP, with entry granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees must be 18 or aged.
The schedule is simple but striking:
- Shaving begins: 6 p.m.
- Film screening starts: 8 p.m.
Professional hairdressers will be present to help actors, and the corridor of the event will be recorded for the offspring.
Bugonia marks the fourth collaboration between Emma Stone and director Yorgos Lanthimos. Their former workshop together includes The Fave ( 2018), Poor Effects ( 2023), and Kinds of Kindness( 2024).
In this film, Stone plays a high-powered CEO who finds herself in a surreal dilemma involving hijacking and allegations of being an alien. The narrative promises Lanthimos’ signature mix of dark humor and absurdity.
Alongside Stone, the film stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone, creating a dynamic and intriguing ensemble cast.
Earlier this year, Stone opened up about shaving her head for the role. In an interview with Vogue, she said, “like no better feeling in the world.”
She added that the experience was emotional, reflecting on her mother, Krista Stone, who had previously shaved her head during breast cancer treatment.
Bugonia hits US playhouses on October 24. This premiere is being described as one of the most inventive and enterprising film events of the time, combining glamour, spectacle, and an unusual twist on the traditional red carpet.
For suckers and film suckers, this premiere isn’t just about watching a movie, it’s about living a story, one shaved head at a time.
