Donald Trump Sparks Outrage With Threat to Strip Rosie O’Donnell of U.S. Citizenship
Donald Trump is once again in the spotlight, this time over a startling remark targeting comedian and actress Rosie O’Donnell — a familiar face in his long list of public feuds.
In a Truth Social post sent out just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, the former U.S. president suggested he was mulling over the idea of revoking O’Donnell’s American citizenship.
“Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” he wrote.
The statement sparked immediate backlash and raised legal eyebrows.
O’Donnell, who now resides in Ireland after Trump’s controversial second-term victory, responded furiously on Instagram.
“The president of the USA has always hated the fact that I see him for who he is — a criminal con man sexual abusing liar out to harm our nation to serve himself,” she wrote.
She didn’t stop there. In another post, O’Donnell shared a throwback photo of Trump with Jeffrey Epstein, firing off a cutting jab:
“You want to revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan.”
The spat is more than just another celebrity squabble. Trump’s remarks landed amid growing turmoil within his administration — from public clashes over the Epstein investigation to concerns surrounding aid to Ukraine and criticism of federal disaster response in Texas.
But experts were quick to shoot down Trump’s suggestion as legally impossible. Julia Gelatt of the Migration Policy Institute made it clear: “U.S.-born citizens cannot have their citizenship taken away.”
Amanda Frost, a legal scholar at the University of Virginia, pointed to a landmark ruling.“In 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court declared… the government cannot sever its relationship to the people by taking away their citizenship,” she explained.
This feud is hardly new. It traces back to 2006, when O’Donnell publicly mocked Trump on The View. The reality TV mogul retaliated with a lawsuit threat and years of jabs — including calling her “fat” and “wacko.”
One of the most infamous exchanges happened during a 2015 Republican debate. When accused of insulting women, Trump quipped, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”
Saturday’s outburst is just the latest example of Trump turning his ire toward celebrities and public figures who speak out against him.
He’s previously floated the idea of deporting Elon Musk and accused others, including Zohran Mamdani, Bruce Springsteen, and Beyoncé, of corruption, criminal activity, or immigration fraud.
Legal scholars and critics say these threats are empty but dangerous, feeding into a pattern of political intimidation.
As the dust settles, Trump’s team has not issued any clarification. O’Donnell, meanwhile, remains undeterred, continuing to call out the former president from across the Atlantic.
This latest clash is unlikely to be the last. With Trump’s rhetoric escalating and his critics fighting back harder than ever, the battleground between celebrity and politics seems far from cooling down.
