Collision in Royston Leaves Pensioner Fighting for Life
A serious road traffic collision in Royston has left an elderly man in a critical condition, prompting an urgent police appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.
The incident happened at approximately 4.55pm on Friday, 18th July, on Baldock Road (A505) — a key route through the Hertfordshire town. It involved a black Nissan Juke and a black Skoda Fabia.
Emergency services rushed to the scene. Officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit were joined by paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service.
The driver of the Skoda, a man in his 80s and travelling alone, suffered severe injuries. He remains in critical condition in the hospital. The woman behind the wheel of the Nissan, also driving solo, sustained minor injuries.
Police are treating this as a serious incident and are urging anyone who saw the crash or was in the area around the time to come forward.
Sergeant Tim Davies, from the Road Policing Unit, stated: “As part of our investigations, I am appealing to anyone who either witnessed the collision or was driving in the area at the time of the incident to please contact police.
“If you have any information or dash cam footage, please also report this, as it may help with ongoing lines of enquiry.”
Footage and information can be submitted via the police’s official online portal.
The stretch of road where the crash occurred is often busy during peak hours. Locals are urged to remain cautious, especially as investigations may lead to ongoing traffic disruption.
