Chelsea Face Fresh Setback as Cole Palmer Ruled Out for Six More Weeks
Chelsea have been dealt a major setback with confirmation that star midfielder Cole Palmer will be sidelined for another six weeks following a recurring groin injury.
The news was confirmed by Blues boss Enzo Maresca ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old, who has been one of Chelsea’s brightest sparks since joining from Manchester City, first suffered the injury back in August.
After an encouraging return, marked by standout performances and goals against Brentford and Bayern Munich, hopes were high that Palmer had shaken off the issue for good.
But those hopes faded fast. During Chelsea’s 2–1 defeat to Manchester United on September 20, Palmer appeared to aggravate the problem once again.
Maresca admitted his earlier optimism had been misplaced. “I was wrong (about Palmer). Unfortunately, he needs to be out for six more weeks,” the manager told reporters on Friday.
“We try to protect Cole as much as we can. The most important thing is that when he comes back, he is fully fit.
The medical staff are not magicians. We hope six weeks are enough. We need to see it step-by-step. For sure, he’s going to be okay.

He looks relaxed. He has tried to recover from the injury and is doing all the therapy.”
Palmer’s absence leaves a gaping hole in Maresca’s attacking setup. The England international has become a vital creative outlet, often dictating Chelsea’s tempo and linking up effectively with Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling.
This new setback couldn’t come at a worse time. The Blues have been struggling to find consistency, sitting mid-table and already battling a growing injury list that has tested the depth of Maresca’s squad.
For now, Chelsea fans will have to be patient. The focus turns to recovery and rehabilitation, ensuring Palmer returns in peak condition — not just rushed back into action.
In truth, the young playmaker’s energy and flair have been sorely missed whenever he’s been out. Six more weeks without Cole Palmer could feel like an eternity for a team desperate for rhythm and results.
