Carl Rushworth Drops Strong Hint Over Coventry Future
Coventry City’s on-loan goalkeeper Carl Rushworth has suggested that an endless stay at the CBS Arena could be on the cards, but for now, his eyes are forcefully fixed on one target promotion to the Premier League.
The 24- time-old, presently on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, has been a revelation between the sticks for the Sky Blues, helping Mark Robins’ side maintain one of the strongest defensive records in the Championship.
And with Rushworth lately breaking the club’s all-time record of 613 twinkles without conceding a thing, suckers are now expecting to see him in Coventry colors beyond this season.
When asked about his long-term future, Rushworth kept things grounded. “I’m contracted until 2027, I believe, so another year and an option, I think I’ve got.”
“I’ve tried not to. I tried to just like take it a little bit at a time. Obviously, I know that when we’re in May that there’s only one thing that I’m going to be thinking of, and that’s hopefully going to be promotion.”
“So that’s kind of like the end thing, and I haven’t really thought of anything further than May at the moment.” A calm, measured answer, but one that gives away more than it hides.
Coventry City has established a solid reputation for turning loan players into crucial, endless signings. Just look at Callum O’Hare from Aston Villa or Ben Sheaf from Arsenal.
Indeed, Rushworth’s former Brighton teammate, Viktor Gyökeres, followed the same route and went on to become a club idol before sealing a big- plutocrat move abroad.
Rushworth could be next in line. The Halifax-born shot-stopper made it clear that Coventry City feels like home.
“Yeah, obviously with Vik as well, yeah, I could,” he said. “I really like it, and I’m just saying that I’m really enjoying my time here.
The group’s really good, I like the location, and the club is going in the right direction for me as well.”
“There’s the fanbase, so there’s a lot of things that tick the boxes, so yeah, I’m really enjoying my time at the moment.”
It’s the kind of statement that suckers love to hear, honest, genuine, and predicated.
Since subscribing to Brighton back in 2019 from non-league Halifax Town, Rushworth’s trip has been anything but easy.
Loan spells at Worthing, Walsall, Lincoln City, Swansea, and Hull City helped shape him into the player he is at the moment. But, remarkably, he’s yet to make a single league appearance for the Seagulls.
Now, at Coventry, he seems settled, confident, harmonious, and playing with real authority.
As the Championship crusade heats up, Rushworth has quickly become an addict’s favorite. His calm presence and commanding performances have fit belief into a side chasing Premier League football for the first time since 2001.
With Coventry’s recent success in transubstantiating loanees into endless stars, and Rushworth’s growing affection for the club, it wouldn’t be surprising if this story develops further come summer.
