Bryan Mbeumo, one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers, has joined Manchester United in a blockbuster £71m deal — a pivotal move as the club rebuilds under Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United have officially secured the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth £71 million. The 25-year-old Cameroon international has inked a five-year contract with the Red Devils, marking the end of an intense summer pursuit.
United’s initial offer for the prolific forward was followed by several improved bids before both clubs finally agreed on a package — £65 million upfront, with an additional £6 million tied to performance-related add-ons.
Mbeumo, who netted 20 Premier League goals last season, made no secret of his desire to make the switch once he became aware of United’s interest.
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams; the team whose shirt I wore growing up,” Mbeumo said.
“My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know that I have the spirit and character to reach another level here, learning from Ruben Amorim and playing alongside world-class players.
Everybody told me about the environment that is being created here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans, we are all really determined to challenge for the biggest trophies.”
His arrival marks a statement of intent from manager Ruben Amorim, who sees Mbeumo as a cornerstone of his rebuilding strategy. Alongside Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, Mbeumo was identified early on as a crucial addition to United’s new-look attacking line.
A New Era Under Amorim
United endured a disappointing campaign last season, finishing 15th in the Premier League and missing out on European competition. Amorim’s vision now centres on restructuring and revitalising the squad — and Mbeumo’s versatility and proven top-flight pedigree make him a vital piece of the puzzle.
Mbeumo will link up with his new teammates shortly as the squad prepares to depart for their pre-season tour of the United States.
“Bryan’s goals and assists record in the Premier League is exceptional. His remarkable consistency has put him among the most productive players in England for the last three seasons,” said Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football.
“Bryan’s belief in our project and determination to join the club confirmed that he was the perfect fit for Manchester United and the culture that we are developing.”
Rashford Set for Barcelona Switch
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford is poised to finalise a season-long loan move to Barcelona. The England international completed a medical in Catalonia on Monday, having travelled over the weekend.
The Spanish giants have agreed to take on the full burden of his wages for the upcoming campaign and retain an option to purchase him permanently next summer for €35 million.
