A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded outside a Kent hospital as a four-year-old boy was fatally struck by a bus shortly after visiting a relative.
Police have launched an urgent witness appeal following the death of young Zaahir Jan, who was hit by a single-decker bus outside Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Ramsgate Road shortly after 4pm on Thursday, 7 August.
Zaahir, who had just left the hospital after seeing his grandmother, was walking near the entrance to the A&E department when the collision happened. The boy was swiftly taken back into the hospital for treatment, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.
His devastated mother, Azaria Green, has launched a fundraiser in her son’s memory, describing him as a “sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile.”
“Everyone is devastated, but that word doesn’t feel like enough to explain how we are all feeling. Our sweet, funny boy with a cheeky smile that could make anyone’s heart full. The smile that we can’t see again. I didn’t even get to tell you how much I love you,” she said.
The family’s pain has sent shockwaves through the local community, with tributes pouring in for the young boy described as joyful and full of life.
A child’s laughter silenced in an instant, locals are left reeling from the loss as police dig for answers.
Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is leading the inquiry and is urgently calling on witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who was travelling on the bus and hasn’t yet spoken to officers.
“Witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage are sought by officers investigating a fatal collision in Margate.
