Blackpool Weather Set Fair as Red Arrows Return for Air Show Spectacle

The famous Blackpool Air Show is back this weekend, and the forecast is set to please. After a blustery, rain-soaked week across the UK, the Fylde Coast can look forward to much brighter skies.

Tens of thousands are expected to pack the promenade for the free two-day event, running Saturday, 9 August and Sunday, 10 August. And the big draw? The world-renowned Red Arrows, ready to paint the skies above Blackpool in their trademark trails.

Storm Floris may have rattled the country earlier this week, but the mood is shifting. Forecasters are promising sunnier conditions across much of England and Wales, with Blackpool looking particularly inviting.

Saturday should deliver warm sunshine and only the odd patch of cloud. Northern Scotland may still see some rain, but here in Lancashire, spirits – and temperatures – will be high.

Sunday will follow suit, though a weather front creeping in from the west could dampen things later in the evening across northern parts. Still, much of the day is expected to be perfect for watching daring aerial manoeuvres over the Irish Sea.

From Sunday, the mercury is tipped to rise sharply in the south, as the tail end of Tropical Storm Dexter drags in warm air from the southwest.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates said: “We’re confident that temperatures will increase markedly by the start of next week, reaching the low 30s Celsius in parts of England on Monday and perhaps the mid 30s in a few places on Tuesday.

However, the length of this warm spell is still uncertain, and it is possible that high temperatures could persist further into next week, particularly in the south.”

Lancashire’s Hour-by-Hour Forecast Saturday 9 August

Early risers will wake to a mild, partly cloudy start with temperatures around 16–17°C. By 6am, sunshine will break through, staying bright through the morning. The afternoon will bring a mix of sunny spells and light cloud, peaking at 18°C. The evening will be warm and clear, perfect for a seaside stroll.

Highlights:

  • 6am–8am: Sunny intervals, 15–16°C
  • 3pm–7pm: Glorious sunshine, steady at 18°C
  • Late evening: Mild and dry, 17°C

Lancashire’s Hour-by-Hour Forecast Sunday 10 August

Sunday morning will be bright and calm, with long sunny intervals. The afternoon will remain pleasant, with highs of 18°C. Any cloud will arrive much later, keeping the day ideal for air show viewing.

Highlights:

  • Morning: Clear skies, 15–17°C
  • Afternoon: Sun-drenched and warm, 18°C
  • Evening: Light cloud, 17°C

With the Blackpool weather looking this good, expect big crowds, busy roads, and plenty of cameras pointing skyward. The planes will roar. The crowds will cheer. And for once this summer, the sun might just play along.
