Aaron Ramsey Nets Last-Gasp Winner as Pumas Fans Go Into Frenzy
A dramatic finale at Estadio Olímpico Universitario on Saturday saw Aaron Ramsey score a 92nd-minute winner for his new club, Pumas, sending Mexican supporters into ecstasy.
Rain poured relentlessly over the stadium, yet it didn’t dampen the celebrations as the 34-year-old Welsh midfielder found the back of the net in the dying moments of the game. His strike sealed a memorable victory and instantly made him a fan favourite.
Ramsey, who had been brought on as a substitute in the 73rd minute, ran straight to the crowd after scoring, holding his jersey aloft in a nod reminiscent of Lionel Messi’s iconic celebrations. His teammates quickly surrounded him in jubilation.
Post-match, Ramsey shared the moment on X, captioning his photos: “Vamos! Can’t beat that feeling.”

Fans responded with unbridled excitement. One supporter simply wrote: “I love you.” Another declared, “My number 10,” while one added, “How could I not love you!?”
A more playful comment read: “Let’s freaking go! The first of many goals & points that you will be giving to PUMAS. (I’m sure this Welsh weather gave you extra motivation.”
The midfielder had made his Pumas debut only last week in a goalless draw against Club Puebla, marking his return to competitive football after Cardiff City’s 2-1 win over Luton in March.
Ramsey has not featured for Wales since September 2024 and was recently omitted from Craig Bellamy’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Canada. The Welsh boss provided insight into his decision.
“He hasn’t played enough football over a period,” said Bellamy.
“It wouldn’t be fair to call him up, travel the distance, the time difference [from Mexico to Wales], and then travel to Kazakhstan, and expect him to play any part of it after being out for so long.
The injury, particularly with a hamstring injury, wouldn’t be our responsibility to do that or expect anything from him. I speak to him a lot. The idea with him is to get minutes, get training, and get back to just playing football.
If he’s available and he’s had a lot of minutes, and that comes from training as well, a consistent basis of being involved in football, then we’ll look again.”
For Aaron Ramsey, Saturday’s last-gasp goal could mark the beginning of a new chapter. Fans are already hoping the Welshman can replicate his magic in Mexico, proving that age is no barrier when passion meets opportunity.
