Liam Gallagher didn’t hold back in an unearthed interview where he blasted “part time rock stars” who chase cheques over passion — a fiery take that’s come back into the spotlight just as Oasis makes their colossal comeback.
The outspoken 52-year-old frontman, never one to tiptoe around controversy, called out modern musicians for lacking the grit and soul that once defined rock ‘n’ roll.
In a 2017 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Gallagher gave an unfiltered assessment of the state of the music scene: “A lot of these rock n’ roll stars these days are coming in and just getting the cheque, do you know what I mean?
Imagine Keith Moon drumming his a**e off and then going home. You need to boot a few things and that, know what I mean?”
The clip resurfaced just days after he and his brother Noel Gallagher stood side by side at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, marking their first performance together in 16 years.
The moment — emotional, historic, and long overdue — sent fans into a frenzy. But true to form, Liam left immediately after the gig, while Noel lingered a bit longer backstage.
Still, with a reported £100 million haul from the sold-out reunion tour — split evenly between the estranged siblings — the timing of Liam’s old comments raised eyebrows. Especially with fans having forked out thousands due to Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing model. To be clear, Oasis had no hand in the soaring prices.
The nostalgia-fuelled tour returns to their hometown this week, with five mega-shows at Heaton Park beginning July 11. Each night will see nearly 80,000 fans belt out anthems that shaped a generation. But Liam’s playful antics might stir up a bit of red-blue tension in Manchester.
At both Cardiff gigs, he urged fans to join in on the Poznan — a chant-heavy, bouncing tradition adopted by Manchester City supporters.
He told the crowd: “I don’t ask you to do the Mexican wave or sh*t like that, but I want you to do the Poznan so everyone turn around and put your hands on each other. It’s 2025, don’t be shy. When the tunes start, you jump up and down, it’s very easy, you don’t need GCSEs.”
The move went down a storm. But with Heaton Park likely to be packed with rival Manchester United fans this weekend, his City-leaning gestures could provoke a spicier reaction.
One insider told the Mirror: “Liam loves seeing the crowd do it, but it will be a higher risk strategy at Heaton Park.
It will be no surprise if he does do it or gives City a shout-out on stage because he and Noel are such big fans. Bonehead is the only red (United fan) in the line-up.”
Meanwhile, ticket resale chaos continues. With demand sky-high, platforms like Viagogo, StubHub, and Vivid Seats are flooded with listings. But fans are being warned — those tickets might not be valid.
Resale restrictions apply to many original sales, and buying from third-party sites could result in ticket cancellations.
Organisers advise double-checking terms and conditions through original sellers like Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is banned, you might be turned away at the gate.
Despite the friction, the hype is undeniable. Oasis is back. The Gallaghers are together. And Liam’s still as unfiltered as ever.
