The Piccadilly line is facing serious disruption this morning after a fire broke out near South Harrow station, causing part of the service to be suspended.
Trains are not running between South Harrow and Uxbridge, with heavy delays affecting the rest of the line. Commuters are being hit hard, with no clear timeline for full service to resume.
The incident began in the early hours. Around 1:30 am, emergency teams were called to a fire raging beneath the railway arches near Roxeth Green Avenue. The flames quickly spread across several arches, damaging nearby businesses, including local car workshops.

Fire crews reported a worrying detail. “Many gas cylinders are also thought to have exploded in the early phases of the fire beneath the South Harrow station rails.”
The London Fire Brigade confirmed that approximately 100 firefighters are working at the scene. Thick smoke continues to pour from the affected area, and residents have been urged to take precautions. “People are urged to keep their doors and windows closed.”
The situation is far from over. Firefighters expect a lengthy operation. “Crews suggest they are likely to be at the scene well into the morning.”
Travel across London remains difficult. Passengers on the Piccadilly line are being advised to find alternative routes, as there’s little hope of quick recovery. The disruption has caused ripple effects on other lines too.
Minor delays have also hit the Elizabeth line between Hayes and Harlington and Reading, due to earlier engineering work at Slough. The Jubilee line is facing minor issues as well.
Transport for London is working to manage the situation, but the advice is clear: Avoid the Piccadilly line if possible.
