Hartlepool – Emergency services rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision on the A689 near Greatham Village in Hartlepool, where two individuals received treatment at the roadside.

The incident occurred on the dual carriageway in the vicinity of Claxton Bank, prompting a swift response from paramedics, the Cleveland Fire Brigade and local police. Fortunately, no individuals were reported to be trapped in their vehicles, according to a statement from the fire service.

Emergency Services at the Scene

  • Two fire engines and an ambulance were pictured attending the scene
  • Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed no extrications were necessary
  • Police officers were also present to manage the incident and divert traffic

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “At 7.40am on Tuesday, March 25, police were called to a collision on Stockton Road in Billingham involving approximately five vehicles. Ambulance and Cleveland Fire Brigade were also at the scene. A passenger in one of the vehicles reported pain in her leg. The road was closed but has since reopened.”

The crash led to traffic congestion in the area, with vehicles being diverted through Greatham Village and towards Sappers Corner to bypass the delays. Motorists experienced temporary disruption, though traffic has since begun to ease.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to a road traffic collision this morning (March 25) shortly before 8am on the A689, near Billingham. We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader to the incident. Two patients were treated and discharged on scene.”

Authorities have not yet released further details on the number of vehicles involved or the extent of injuries sustained. Investigations into the cause of the collision are likely ongoing.

Residents and commuters are advised to remain cautious and check local traffic updates when travelling through the area.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said: “Cleveland Fire Brigade were called on Tuesday at 07.44 to an incident on A689, near to Greatham. Two fire engines in Hartlepool were in attendance at a three-vehicle road traffic collision (RTC). No persons are trapped. Police in attendance. We got the stop at 8.17 AM”.
