Even though the New York Jets suffered a heavy 29-6 defeat against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, rookie head coach Aaron Glenn remained upbeat about the performance of his newly appointed defensive coordinator, Chris Harris.
The Jets’ loss at the Superdome might have made headlines, but Glenn is focusing on the bigger picture as Harris called plays for the first time in his NFL career.
How Did Chris Harris Perform in His First Game as Defensive Coordinator?
Glenn, who replaced Steve Wilks on Monday, praised Harris for staying calm under pressure.
“I thought Chris did a really good job at calling this first game. He was patient, not frazzled at all, and handled the Saints’ up-tempo style well,” Glenn said post-match.
The Jets’ defence started strongly, with rookie safety Malachi Moore forcing a fumble from Saints’ quarterback Taysom Hill on just the second play. This marked only the third takeaway for the Jets this season, highlighting the team’s struggles.
Why Is the Jets’ Interception Record a Concern?
The team’s lack of interceptions has been a consistent talking point throughout the season. Despite the Saints attempting 50 passes in the game, the Jets failed to record a single interception.
This means the Jets now hold the NFL record for most consecutive games without an interception at 15, surpassing the 2024-25 San Francisco 49ers, who went 14 games without a pick.
Glenn addressed the streak calmly: “I hate the fact that we haven’t got an interception, but we got a turnover and a fourth-down stop. That’s what matters,” he said.
Linebacker Quincy Williams added, “We always say they come in bunches. Hopefully, the picks will come.”
How Is Running Back Breece Hall Performing This Season?
Meanwhile, Jets running back Breece Hall continues his bid to reach 1,000 rushing yards in a season, a milestone he has yet to achieve in his career.
On Sunday, Hall ran 54 yards on 16 carries, bringing his season total to 954 yards. He now needs just 46 yards in the final two games to hit the 1,000-yard mark.
However, Hall’s recent form has dipped: he has gained only 188 yards in the last four games, down from a 1,200-yard pace earlier in the season.
“We were decently efficient in the run game, but penalties held us back,” Hall said.
What Does This Mean for the Jets and the UK Audience?
For UK fans following the NFL, Aaron Glenn’s measured approach is notable. While the Jets’ season has been disappointing, there are pockets of progress, especially on defence under Harris.
With Hall closing in on a personal milestone, there’s hope for the team to finish the season on a slightly positive note.
