Poundland shoppers across the UK are facing yet another surge of store closures as the budget retailer presses ahead with its major restructuring plan.
The chain has verified that a further 14 stores will shut their doors by early February, adding to the 19 formerly allocated for check-in in the coming weeks.
It means that by the launch of coming launch, further than 100 Poundland shops will have faded from high thoroughfares and retail premises as part of sweats to deliver the business and simplify its operations.
More Shops Prepare to Close
Every store on the rearmost check list has now launched concurrence deals, with abatements of over 40 across a wide selection of stock, from groceries and homeware to apparel, toys and beauty products.
Shoppers hoping to snare last-nanosecond bargains are formerly visiting their original branches as they prepare to shut for good.
These closures come on top of 40 other shops that had already begun selling through their remaining products this year when landlords decided not to renew Poundland’s leases.
A further 57 branches will shut by the end of September after being identified as some of the chain’s least profitable locations.
Once the restructuring is complete, the retailer expects its UK estate to shrink from roughly 800 stores to somewhere between 650 and 700.
Poundland’s Response
Darren MacDonald, Poundland’s UK country manager, said: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time, we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers.
The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we’re leaving with pride.
And when we close our doors, we look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
Poundland was bought for £1 by investment firm Gordon Brothers in June. A High Court ruling in August approved a restructuring plan that kept the chain from entering administration just days before it was expected to run out of cash.
Since then, efforts to stabilise the business have focused not only on a slimmer store network but also on simplifying how items are priced.
The retailer is returning to its roots with a straightforward £1, £2 and £3 grocery pricing model, with around 60% of food items costing £1, and similar simplified pricing across homeware, clothing and everyday essentials.
