Camden Council has officially approved GPE’s ambitious redevelopment plans for its London headquarters, setting the stage for a striking new chapter in the capital’s office landscape.
The eight-storey refurbishment will preserve the original architectural charm designed by Richard Seifert & Partners, while injecting a suite of modern, sustainable upgrades.
Among the standout features? A rooftop terrace with panoramic views and a stylish new pavilion overlooking the pedestrian-friendly Alfred Place.
Camden Gives Nod to Bold Green Makeover of Iconic Office Block
This newly approved project is set to reinforce GPE’s strategic expansion around Tottenham Court Road. When complete, it will sit proudly among the developer’s other key assets in the area, including the Gable Building, Courtyard Building and existing Alfred Place offices.
Combined, these properties will offer a high-quality office cluster spanning approximately 220,000 sq ft, all focused on cutting-edge Grade A workspaces.
“Securing planning permission from Camden Council marks a significant milestone for this project. We’re proud to be breathing new life into this building, recognising its architectural heritage, and transforming it into a standout workplace that reflects the future of office design,” said Trevor Phyo, senior development manager at GPE.
Sustainable Design and Iconic Heritage in Harmony
One of the project’s defining features is its careful balance between preserving heritage and embracing sustainability. The building’s original architectural framework will remain largely intact, respecting its iconic design roots, while cutting-edge upgrades ensure it meets the needs of modern, eco-conscious occupiers.
The inclusion of green infrastructure and energy-efficient technologies is expected to significantly reduce the building’s carbon footprint a major plus for environmentally-minded tenants.
Completion Set for 2027: What to Expect?
GPE’s timeline points to an early 2027 completion. Once finished, the building aims to:
- Deliver top-tier, flexible office space
- Showcase sustainable architecture with net-zero ambitions
- Offer lifestyle-driven amenities such as a rooftop social space
- Enhance public engagement via a new pavilion on Alfred Place
The transformation also promises to inject fresh energy into the local Camden commercial scene, further elevating the area’s status as a prime office location in the post-pandemic landscape.
This regeneration isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s a signal of where London’s office market is heading towards greener, smarter, and more people-focused workplaces. GPE’s Camden HQ project is poised to be more than a refurbishment. It’s a statement blending legacy with vision, and style with sustainability.
