A quiet Tuesday evening in King’s Heath, Birmingham, turned woeful when a man in his seventies lost his life in a megahit- and- run incident on Highters Heath Lane.
The collision occurred at around 730 pm( GMT), leaving residents shocked and police urgently appealing for information.
Exigency services were quick to respond, and ambulance crews reached the scene within four twinkles of entering multiple 999 calls. Despite the stylish sweats of paramedics and critical care brigades, the man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.
Police have since verified that the motorist involved fled incontinently following the crash, sparking an active investigation. Officers from West Midlands Police are now working to trace the person responsible.
In a direct appeal, Insp Sam Lewis urged the driver to come forward, stating: “To the driver of the car, we would say come forward, do the right thing and make yourself known.”
The victim’s family has been informed and is receiving specialist support from family liaison officers.
Authorities are also appealing to the public for any dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at the time of the collision. Original resisters are being prompted to review any recordings that might help investigators identify the fleeing automobilist.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service verified that two ambulances, two paramedic officers, and a critical care auto were dispatched to the scene. Tragically, despite advanced life support, the man couldn’t be revived.
“Sadly, despite advanced life support, the man could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene a short time later,” the service said.
The incident has left the King’s Heath community shaken, with numerous residents expressing anguish and frustration over yet another case of reckless driving in Birmingham’s suburban thoroughfares.
Police have renewed their plea for anyone with information about the vehicle involved to contact West Midlands Police via their online portal or by calling 101, quoting the relevant case number.
