Jannik Sinner Battles Through to China Open Semi-Finals
Jannik Sinner showcased resilience and grit as he stormed into the semi-finals of the China Open with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan on Monday. The Italian star is now closing in on world number one Carlos Alcaraz in the rankings.
Sinner lost the top spot earlier this month after relinquishing his U.S. Open title to the Spaniard. He has bounced back impressively in Beijing, marking his seventh semi-final appearance in eight tournaments this season, having recently defeated Lorenzo Musetti to reach the US Open semis.
The opening set was a display of Sinner’s heavy-hitting baseline game, wrapped up in just 26 minutes. The second set, however, proved trickier. He slipped awkwardly in the eighth game but quickly recovered.
Down 4-5, he refused to yield, breaking back immediately to force a decider. In the 12th game, Sinner pounced on Marozsan’s serve to close the match, celebrating his 40th tour-level win of the season, a campaign that included a brief doping suspension.
JANNIK. SINNER.
Absurd movement.
Absurd lob.
Absurd tennis player.

“I feel like I started off very well in the first set. We both played well in the second set. I had some break chances at 4-3, I couldn’t use them,” Sinner said.
“He’s someone whose peak is high, which I knew before the match. When he was serving for the set, he made a couple of unforced errors, which helped me to come back and win in two.”
Next, the wrongdoer will face Australian third seed Alex De Minaur in the semis. De Minaur advanced after Czech 20 time-old Jakub Mensik retired with a left-leg injury, running 1- 4 in the opening set.
Meanwhile, American teen Learner Tien reserved his first ATP Tour semi-final spot when fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti retired, running 4- 6 6- 3 3- 0 due to a ham or groin problem.
Eighth seed Daniil Medvedev cruised once German alternate seed Alexander Zverev 6- 3, 6- 3. The Russian has dominated recent hassles with Zverev, winning 14 of their 20 career meetings, including eight of the last fox.
The stage is now set for a thrilling semi-final clash between Sinner and De Minaur, with the Italian eager to make up ground on Alcaraz and maintain instigation in an astral season.
