Rory McIlroy Skips Florida Home Ahead of Ryder Cup Preparations
Rory McIlroy, world number two, has verified he’ll not be returning to his Florida hearthstone before the 2025 Ryder Cup.
The Northern Irish golfer and Team Europe will rather concentrate on final medications at Bethpage State Park in New York, the East Coast venue for this time’s clash.
With just a fortnight to go before the 45th Ryder Cup begins, Europe is plugging for back- to- back triumphs on American soil, a feat they haven’t achieved since 2012.
McIlroy was part of that major platoon led by José María Olazábal, which edged the USA in a thrilling finish.
Luke Donald returns as European captain in 2025, following his successful home triumph in Rome two years agone.
Before teeing off at the Ryder Cup, McIlroy is seeking inspiration at the BMW PGA Championship, the flagship event of the DP World Tour.
He has also drawn inspiration from other elite athletes in his preparation, including tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
“No. There’s probably no point in going back to Florida,” McIlroy told reporters at Wentworth (via Belfast Live).
“The golf courses there still aren’t ready. They do a lot of maintenance over the summer. Greens will be soft and slow.
“I’ll say we’ll probably stay up around the area, play some of the golf courses around there for a few days, and then we’ll all reconvene at Bethpage on Monday. But I think a lot of us are going to stay up around that North East area.”
Rory said he likely will play less of a normal PGA Tour schedule and play more National Opens around the world.
Seeing this reaction from the Irish fans, he’s on to something.

Despite recently moving into a refurbished Surrey mansion, McIlroy and his family still maintain their luxurious Jupiter, Florida, estate.
The property, bought from golf legend Ernie Els in 2017 for roughly$ 11 million, now boasts an estimated value of double that.
It spans 13,000 square feet and includes nine bedrooms, a swimming pool, spa, and games room, nestled in the exclusive Bear’s Club community.
Yet, comfort will have to wait. McIlroy prefers proximity to Bethpage over downtime in Florida as he prepares for the Ryder Cup.
At Wentworth, he will be vying for the BMW PGA Championship title, which carries the largest prize fund on the DP World Tour – a potential $9 million payday.
He’ll share the fairways with close friend Shane Lowry and LIV Golf rival Jon Rahm, while quietly building confidence for Team Europe’s Ryder Cup mission.
“I do think we’re still underdogs,” McIlroy admitted on the Sky Sports Golf podcast. “I think it’s a really tall task, but not an insurmountable one. I think that there is an opportunity there, but we have to get the planning right.
“We have to make sure that we’re all ready for what lies ahead. I think Luke’s got everything under control, and I’m sure he’s thought of every single scenario, so I think we’re good in that department.”
McIlroy, 36, has appeared in eight Ryder Cups and is targeting a sixth winner’s medal. Europe’s chances hinge on meticulous preparation and teamwork, something McIlroy appears quietly confident in as the countdown continues.
