Festival-Goers Told to Pack £1 Lifesaver for Green Man Weekend
With the much-loved Green Man Festival set to take over the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog National Park this weekend, revellers are being given one surprisingly simple – and cheap – tip to survive the party marathon.
A £1 purchase could be the difference between dancing through the weekend and feeling rough before Saturday even starts.
Hydration experts are urging attendees to toss electrolyte sachets into their festival backpacks. Not fancy hydration packs. Not expensive sports drinks. Just simple sachets you can find for pocket change.
Nick Hird, a hydration expert at Vidrate, explained: “One way you can help to lessen the effects of dehydration from drinking alcohol is to supplement your consumption of alcohol with electrolyte powders.
*”When you lose fluids from drinking alcohol, you also lose electrolytes so replenishing them helps your body retain water more effectively.
*You can do this by drinking an electrolyte sachet in water before having alcohol to pre-hydrate and help mitigate the dehydrating effects of alcohol.
Also have one before bed after drinking alcohol, or the next morning, to help replenish lost fluids and minerals such as potassium and sodium.”
He stressed that low-sugar options are the way forward, adding: *”It is important to opt for low sugar electrolyte sachets, as drinks with a high sugar content can worsen the dehydration you are suffering from.
Choosing ones with added vitamins such as vitamin C and B12 will also help to make you feel your best all weekend long.”
Festival bars will be busy, and pints will be flowing – but Hird suggests a simple tactic: alternate drinks. Known as ‘zebra striping’, it means downing a glass of water (or other non-alcoholic drink) after each alcoholic one.
“This means that whilst the alcohol is having dehydrating effects, the water helps to prevent this from being too severe, helping you to remain hydrated and hopefully help with the hangover the next day too.”
There’s one more warning – don’t neck litres of water at once. It won’t help. In fact, Hird says it could make you ill. Best to sip steadily and keep your body’s sodium levels balanced.
So if you’re heading to Green Man Festival 2025 this weekend, along with your tent, glitter, and wellies – slip a few electrolyte sachets into your kit. It might just save your Monday morning.
