Richard Kilpatrick Clinches First 2025 PGA Ireland Win at Luttrellstown Castle
Richard Kilpatrick has finally broken through with a stunning victory at the Luttrellstown Castle Pro-Am, carding a brilliant six-under-par 66 to claim top spot—just one shot clear of nearest rival Brian McCormack.
It’s been a long time coming for the Banbridge golfer. With ten top-10 finishes in just 13 events on the Irish PGA circuit this season, consistency was never in doubt. But until now, the win had remained out of reach.
All that changed on a blustery Thursday afternoon at the prestigious Luttrellstown Castle course. Starting his round at the par-3 fourth hole in the shotgun format, Kilpatrick wasted no time. He opened with a birdie. Then made another at the tough index-one fifth. The tone was set.
More birdies dropped on the eighth, 11th and 16th. A lone blemish came on the 17th, but Kilpatrick bounced back with back-to-back birdies on 18 and one. He kept calm, held his nerve, and cruised home with pars to post a -6 total that proved unbeatable.
Meanwhile, Brian McCormack, starting two holes ahead, endured a rocky beginning.
“A double bogey-five on the first hole,” one spectator muttered in disbelief.
But McCormack responded in style. Birdie. Then eagle. A late surge with birdies on his final two holes brought him to -5. Not quite enough. Still, a gutsy effort.
Lisburn’s Nicky Grant finished solo third at four-under, while Colin O’Gorman of Dundrum came in fourth at -3. Order of Merit leader Tim Rice and Elm Park’s Cormac Sharvin shared fifth, both at -2.
The win marks a major milestone for Kilpatrick in the 2025 campaign. He’s been knocking at the door all season. Now, it’s wide open.
The PGA in Ireland rolls on, but at Luttrellstown Castle, it was Richard Kilpatrick’s name etched at the top. Finally.
