Drivers and original residents are being advised of forthcoming changes on Blackheath Hill as Transport for London (TfL) introduces a series of new business restrictions.
The changes come as property development work gets underway in the area, affecting crucial stretches of this busy route.
The affected section runs through both the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Lewisham.
According to the Public Notice Portal, these measures are being introduced under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and will be in place at specific times until 7 pm on 7 March 2026, or until the workshops are completed, whichever comes first.
TfL has emphasised that these rules primarily target general traffic. Vehicles linked to construction work, as well as exigency service vehicles, will be pure.
Motorists are also reminded that instructions from a uniformed police officer or an authorised TfL representative will always take precedence over the business signs.
Blackheath Hill Road Closures and Local Traffic Disruption
The new restrictions are designed to ensure safety and smooth business inflow while construction work is ongoing. Crucial areas affected include:
- The southern kerb-line of Blackheath Hill between Maidenstone Hill and Hollymount Close, where stopping will be prohibited.
- Access to the Blackheath Business Estate and the road leading to numbers 80 to 82 Blackheath Hill will be restricted.
- The right turn into the Blackheath Business Estate and the access road to numbers 80 to 82 Blackheath Hill, which will no longer be allowed.
These road closures are anticipated to result in some original business dislocation, particularly during peak hours.
TfL urges motorists to plan their peregrinations in advance and follow the easily signposted indispensable routes.
Traffic Updates and Alternative Routes for Blackheath Hill Drivers
To help drivers navigate the changes, indispensable routes will guide motorists along Blackheath Hill, Shooters Hill Road, the cloverleaf at Shooters Hill Road and Prince Charles Road, and back onto Blackheath Hill to continue their trip.
The restrictions will officially come into force at 7 am on Monday, 8 December 2025, along the A2 Blackheath Hill.
TfL has advised that the proscriptions will only apply at the times indicated by business signs, so motorists should keep an eye out for streamlined signage.
