Entire Metropolitan Line to Close This Weekend for Essential Maintenance
Transport for London (TfL) has announced that the entire Metropolitan line will be closed this weekend to allow essential maintenance work to take place.
The shutdown will begin early on Saturday, July 5, and continue throughout Sunday, July 6, leaving no Metropolitan line services running on either day. TfL has confirmed that replacement bus services will operate along parts of the route to help affected passengers, but they have also encouraged travellers to use alternative Tube lines or local bus routes where possible.
The planned closure is part of a series of necessary upgrades aimed at improving the reliability and safety of the line in the long term. However, for many regular commuters and weekend travellers, the disruption is expected to cause significant inconvenience.
Local resident and daily commuter, James Patel, said: “It’s frustrating, but I understand the work has to be done. I just wish there was a way to keep part of the line open. Weekends are when I usually catch up with friends, and this will make getting around much harder.”
TfL has urged customers to check their journey plans in advance and allow extra travel time, especially as replacement buses are likely to be busy.
A TfL spokesperson said: “We appreciate this will disrupt many people’s travel plans, but the work is vital to keep the network running safely and efficiently. We’re working to complete it as quickly as possible and will have extra staff available to help passengers over the weekend.”
